Gujarati is an Indo-Aryan language primarily spoken in the state of Guajarati in western India. It is the official language of this state and is widely used in education, mass media, and administration. It is also spoken by a significant number of native speakers of Gujarati settled in other states of India and abroad.This reader is divided into three sections: selections, translations, and glossary. The first section contains 50 selections of news articles from different Gujarati-language newspaper. Each selection is followed by a list of vocabulary in the order of their occurence in the selection and their meanings in the particular context of the selection. Brief grammatical and cultural notes follow the vocabulary lists. The second section gives English translations of the Gujarati selections. The third section is an alphabetic glossary of the vocabulary from the selections.
