This textbook is intended as a self-study tool for those who wish to acquire an introductory level of communicative ability in the Turkmen language. The materials are drawn from texts printed in Turkmen, from taped interviews and dialogs with a variety of Turkmen speakers, from radio and television broadcasts, and other sources. In addition, a cultural essay introduces the theme of each unit and cultural notes are placed in the lessons.The aim of this work is to place in the hands of learners a means of acquiring basic command of the Turkmen language while being initiated into Turkmen culture.
