This Tatar Islamic Texts represents the third in a series of source studies devoted to Islamic texts produced by and circulating among Turkic Muslims of the former Soviet Union. Other twos are Uzbek Islamic Debates: Texts, Translations, and Commentary (2006), and Popular Islamic Literature in Kazakhstan: an Annotated Bibliography (2007).All texts included in this book are in the Tatar language. This collection focuses primarily on texts reflecting theological and social ideas generally consistent with those expressed by the Muslim Religious Board of Tatarstan. As such, these ideas emphasize the defense of Hanafi orthodoxy and the significance of Islam in maintaining Tatar ethno-national cohesion.
