Kashmiri is an Indo-Aryan language primarily spoken in the Kashmiri valley of the State of Jammu and Kashmir in India. It is also spoken by a significant number of people who have settled in other States of India and abroad. Census taken in 2001 shows that there are more than 5.5 millions people are speaking Kashmiri natively. It is used as an optional language in school education, taught as a subject in colleges in the Kashmir valley, and also at postgraduate level in the University of Kashmir.

This Kashmiri Newspaper Reader is divided into three sections: selections, translations, and glossary. The first section contains 50 selections that were taken from Miraas, Praagaash, Aalav, etc. Each selection is followed by a list of vocabulary in the order of occurence in the text, and by brief grammatical and cultural notes. The second section gives English translations of the selections, and the third section presents the Kashmiri-English glossary.
