This glossary was compiled in the hope that it will assist translators working with Chinese materials in the information technology fields. It is presented in three ways: Chinese to English, approximately 5,000 terms alphabetized by pinyin romanization; alphabetized English to Chinese, approximately 5,000 terms; and alphabetized by English abbreviation, approximately 3,500 terms. While this is primarily a telecommunications glossary, it is perhaps better described as a glossary of Information Technology because of the convergence of computer technology and telecommunications. The glossary thus encompasses terms used in computer hardware and software, digital telecommunications, wireless and mobile telecommunications, fiber optic cable technology, and the mushrooming field of antenna theory, among others.
